Choosing Hope
Five Things Friday—
I’ve been thinking lately about the story of Vasilisa, and how she is required by Baba Yaga to sort poppy seeds out of dirt before she can receive the fire she needs to make her way home. In the story, she uses the guidance of a doll to complete the impossible task.
I love stories of metaphor, because they can be seen through whatever lens life currently offers us, and for me right now, this story represents patience, discernment, guidance, and a critical eye for sorting between what’s real and what isn’t.
Obviously, the algorithm shows us more of what we want to see, but life does this also. Guided by intuition, we can train our eye to sort through chaos to find clarity, beauty, equality, abundance, gratitude, and love.
This doesn’t mean that we look away from the reality of the situation, it just means that we place our attention on where we want to be, rather than on where we don’t want to be. The shift is subtle, yet profound.
The starting point is how you relate to the moment. Even if the moment is difficult, can you soften your gaze, steady your breath, and stay in your body? This is the practice, and you have a million moments a day to perfect it.
In the video below, I offer a personal glimpse into some of the ways I’m choosing hope and love over fear and despair. May it be of benefit.
